Mammoth Nordic is pleased to announce

We recognize that making our town a better place to live is the simplest way to make it a better place to visit!

  • Establishing SnowSchool in Mammoth has been our ambition for several years. Mammoth Nordic just invested in MSR snowshoes and Rossignol XC ski gear to outfit 25 first graders. We will provide a free winter ecology experience for local school kids on our 15 km Community Nordic Trail System. Our program is designed to provide kids that otherwise would not have a chance to learn a little about the wonder of their winter environment. These kids can decide for themselves how much fun goofing off (actually, exercising!) on snowshoes and XC skis really is!
  • We intend to expand the program annually, following this year's crop of six year olds through their elementary school experience. Our long-term goal is to integrate SnowSchool into local school curriculum and groom on-campus.

If you would like to be a part of SnowSchool, as a volunteer Coach or Chaperone, please email barbara@mammothnordic.com for more information.

If you picked up TheSheet today, we hope you saw our ad on page 19 inviting locals and visitors alike to support Mammoth Nordic. Re-printed below is a great Letter to the Editor from the July 4th edition of the Mammoth Times, signed by 24 prominent local folks. I'm grateful they believe in our Nordic Grooming Program as much as I do.

Summer may seem a peculiar time to reach out to our existing membership and others that place a high value on convenient, high quality and free Nordic trails right here in town. In fact, the success of the winter grooming program relies heavily on our year-round attention to a host of details; maintenance and repairs of equipment, participation in numerous club and inter-agency planning processes and fundraising.
It’s quite simple, really: we love what we do, and know our community benefits from the significant investment Mammoth Nordic Foundation has made towards improving and expanding winter recreation available free to locals and visitors alike. We believe we have the manpower, knowledge, equipment and passion to pilot the continued development and growth of a Community Nordic Trail System that is the pride of your community. That’s right, the Nordic trails are yours, and we would like you to partner with us by becoming a member.

You can learn more about us in the In the News features on the right-hand side of our website. Or jump to our Membership page straight away!

Of course, please feel free to contact us with any other questions that come to mind.

Sincerely,
Mammoth Nordic Foundation

Letter to the Editor, Mammoth Times

July 1st, 2011 edition:

Last week in What’s up, Up there, the Mammoth Times reported on Mammoth Nordic Foundation and their plans to resume grooming operations next winter. The Community Nordic Trail System this non-profit organization has developed and provided on behalf of our community is an amenity that just makes sense. The best way to make our community a better place to visit is to make it a better place to live. Providing a well maintained Community Nordic Trail System, every day of the winter, accomplishes this in a very direct way.

If you are unfamiliar with their work, please take a few moments to visit www.mammothnordic.com and view their 2010 Season Report. Those of us that appreciate the commitment and passion it takes to deliver this free recreation opportunity encourage you to learn about their work as well as their ambition to make Mammoth Lakes the best winter resort town for locals and visitors alike.
